You need apply this patch and recompile vpopmail&courier-authlib.

The other way is remove "wait_timeout=xxx" from my.cnf, then you need
restart your mysql&authlib service.

Sorry to say this but no one found a working fix for now :(

I too have the same problem and found that restarting the courier-authlib
daemon temporarel;y fixes the problem.

A quickfix is to put an hourly cronjob to restart courier-authlib, since i
made that no more "mysql server has gone away" errors ;)
