Nope, Same problem. Is there any way to have it use a socket at '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' instead of over TCP/IP?

I have also had issues where ive needed to connect to the ip of the machine rather than localhost due to a few crazy mysql dns bugs. Adding the details to the hosts file sometimes fixes that one too.
