I've set up a custom bounce message using the .no-user.msg file, but the message created gets extra slash characters added to the front of the second and subsequent lines of the message.
Is this to be expected?
There's a good chance that .no-user.msg can only be one line. I'm guessing that something in the qmail delivery mechanism (and not vpopmail) is adding the backslashes.
