Ill-chosen (?) words I think. Vpopmail doesnt ignore the .qmail-user-default file, but without the extensions enabled it will treat email addresses with extensions as nonexistent users so they get bounced (or whatever your catchall action is). The .qmail-user-default file still gets processed. As for your question, depending on whether you look at the changelog or various places in the code, you'll get a different answer but it looks like 5.2.1 defaults to 'n' in the bit that matters.
