I have often wondered about this same issue. On large sites the dir-control management takes account for the directories but you end up having alot of forwards/aliases in root dir anyway. I am glad dir-control is there but I think we really need to do something similiar for .qmail files in the domain root. It would be nice if vdelivermail would handle .qmail files in the users home dir. Seems like the cleanest way to do it. But to be honest I have never looked at the code.
