I use it in production without problems, as many of us do.  The only 
thing to remember is that the user that smtp runs as should be in the 
vpopmail group.  i.e: "usermod -G vchkpw qmaild" will add user qmaild to 
group vchkpw.  Also, I think I have to use user%domain instead of 
user@domain for smtp-auth, but that' up to the mail client.
