vadduser stopped adding directories

vadduser (as well as through qmail admin) no longer adds the directories for new
users.  MySQL entries appear to be added normally, and respond to vuserinfo
perfectly, but the added user doesn't have file directories created and as such
cannot receive mail?

Any reason why this would stop working suddenly?
