Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of upgrading to a new server, and I've
reached a brick wall. For the past few hours, I've been playing with
vpopmail authentication errors that I can't find a reason for.

Between the old server (which is working with no problems) and the new
server, there are no differences between control files, config files, or
installations. Vpopmail is compiled with:

./configure --enable-logging=v --enable-tcpserver-file=/var/qmail/vpopmail/e
tc/tcp.smtp --enable-roaming-users=y --enable-ip-alias-domains=y --enable-ap
op=n --enable=passwd=y

On the old server, I have never had any problems with this. However, on the
new server, I am receiving authentication failures (vchkpw: No user found).
I added a user/domain [EMAIL PROTECTED] to test this with. Delivery worked fine,
yet still authentication did not. Here is the information from mail.log:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:127.0.0.1

This is the fourth of fifth compile attempt, and I'm actually back to the
original compile options (aside from the logging). I originally was using
the actual domains I had on the old server to test authentication, and even
tried to setup an ip_alias_map for the domain to the temporary IP on the
server, but still with the same error (with the mapped domain). Trying to
authenticate a local system user brings the same problem (user@:127.0.0.1).

The only thing that I can think of at this point is the server does not
hold the IP's for the domains, but only a single temp IP, and I'm not sure
how closely vpopmail/vchkpw looks at DNS for authentication, seeing as the
actual hostname of the system is not the IP it's using. I feel that this is
going to be solved by a very simple fix, but after working on the problem
for two hours, I still can't find it.

Any ideas and thoughts are appreciated.

Thank you,
Shawn Delano
