  I've had the same problem, it has to do with vpopmail SIGHUP'ing the
qmail-send daemon when a domain is added/deleted etc.  I haven't found a
solution , short of patching the code (and my C isn't good enough yet) but
if I use the scripts to stop qmail, then make the change and restart qmail,
the problem does not happen.
