File permission error

I have had vpopmail/qmail set up fine for a few days now.
I am using --with-mysql for password authentication.

I am consistently getting this type of error:
file permission error
/home/vpopmail/domains/mydomain/myuser/Maildir/989292357.qw

All files are owned by vpopmail.vchkpw.

I can't get back into qmailadmin to administer the mail for this domain.

Can anyone help?
