Thanks for the reply. Regarding ownership, the VPOPMAIL entire directory is
still owned by VPOPMAIL user i checked the domains directory and individual
files in that all of them are owned by vpopmail. I will check on QMAIL
ownership as well. But even vpopmail utilities fail to recognize the domain
this is surprising because i feel utility like vuserinfo does not rely on
QMAIL files at all.

It sounds to me like a permissions problem. As in one of your programs is
running as the root user instead of the vpopmail user and changing
ownership of the qmail files to root. You need to make sure you installed
Qmail correctly using the proper usernames and groups.
