It sounds like you might've forgotten to edit vmysql.h to set a valid MySQL 
username and password before building vpopmail.  (I did the exact same 
thing yesterday!)  Or, if you did edit it, perhaps there's a typo -OR- you 
didn't create the user in MySQL -OR- you didn't grant sufficient rights to 
the MySQL user.

That's a lot of OR's, but hopefully one of them will help.
