VirtualBox and Ubuntu newbie in trouble.
I installed Ubuntu 8.10 desktop (Deputy Dawg, Loungesuit Larry,
whatever) on Windows XP SP3 and it ran fine. Now that I have installed
the Linux Guest Additions, after logon the screen goes blank white. I
have disabled Mouse Integration from the Machine menu. The screen does
not refresh by itself: if a Win app window is brought to the front, then
the VM window brought to the front, the window is filled with the
overlapped part of the Windows app window. If I click in the VM window,
it clears to blank white but occasionally to a striking rainbow check
pattern. Has anybody else seen this behaviour and what was the cause and
remedy?

Video memory: 64 Mb -- I have a 128 Mb ATI-Radeon card
3D support: Enabled
Host RAM: 2 Gb
Guest RAM: 512 Mb
