The reason is most probably that you are trying to start VirtualBox from your root account. This _would_ _probably_ work if you would copy the .Xauthority file from the account which you are used to login to the home directory of root BUT I strongly discourage you from doing this! Better start the GUI from a normal non-root account. If this still does not work, check if you are able to start a normal X application. Kind regards, Frank -- Dr.-Ing.
