Listmates,

This lingering problem is killing me (and the usefulness of virtual box
for
me). I have an openSuSE 11.0 x86_64 laptop host with XP (SP3) as a guest. All
updates to each OS applied. I have used vbox since what? 1.5.4? Throughout the
1.5, 1.6, etc. releases, I had no problem whatsoever transferring data from my
guest to an openSuSE 10.3 server I have regardless of whether I was copying
files in internet explorer or using ftp, etc..

Since 2.0, I cannot transfer anything *from* the XP guest except at
*painfully* slow throughput rates (~380K/s) which means 25 minutes to transfer
a 50M file that should transfer in seconds across my wireless lan.

What is so strange about the situation is that all connections *to* the
XP
guest work at *full* speed. It is only the transfers *from* my XP that don't
work.

In the past, 2.0.2 IIRC I applied the patch that was supposed to help
with the
samba (smb) connection, but that only worked for the 2.0.2 version.

Running both smb and FTP tests today I can confirm this is not limited
to any
samba issue as the result with FTP are the same. There is some generic network
reason that is preventing my XP guest from networking in any reasonable manner
when I am sending data from it to anywhere else.

The implications are huge. I can read files just fine from any server,
but if
I have to save the file, I'm screwed. If I download a file to the guest and
then want to put in on my server, I'm likewise screwed.

Now I don't put this totally beyond a blatant screw up on my part, but I
install vbox the same, install guest additions the same, but still since 2.0,
my outbound networking is hosed.

Can anybody think of any vbox network settings I should check, tweak,
etc? I
grabbed a wireshark capture, but nothing significant stood out other than a
bunch of traffic, but no throughput.

I'm really scratching my head here and need some help - or a swift kick
to get
me pointed in the right direction. With 2.0.14, it has gotten to the point
where the vbox guest thinks the mapped drive connections have been dropped even
though they are there and browseable just fine: See:

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-(
