Careful... the Ubuntu repository version is the OSE:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/misc/virtualbox-ose
<http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=intrepid&searchon=names&keywords=virtualbox>

So if he has actually been running the PEUL version, and hasn't added
the _virtualbox_ repository:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads
deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian intrepid non-free
and key, it won't work. He will get: E: couldn't find package
virtualbox-2.1.

It appears that he does have the _virtualbox_ repository in his
/etc/apps/sources.list as he indicated that it worked for him, but (IMO)
it's always best to distinguish between the two.
