I'm expecting faster speeds as well. Are you able to connect both
networks over a TAP interface? You could bridge both TAP interfaces
on the host.

Could you check if something changes if you are using the E1000
netwerk device emulation instead of the (default) PCNet?

Which host OS are you using?
