I am having the same problem... using CDH 5.3 with spark service running. I have no problem running spark-shell and executing jobs. But I can't get zeppelin to use spark on my CDH. BTW, I am using the packaged zeppelin (e.g. build with mvn clean packge with the CDH 5.3 parameters) The interpreter tab keep showing master = local (*) Eran
