Sorry, I should have mentioned that as well. We are using Cocoon with
Xalan and Xerces:

xalan-2.7.1.jar
xercesImpl-2.9.1.jar

It appears that Xerces 2.10.0 is available, though I'd have to make sure
there aren't any breaking changes before using it. Xalan is still stick
in a 3-year rut with no releases. Lots of stuff has happened in the XSLT
world since then... it's a shame that those standards aren't (appearing
to) being actively developed.
