Yep. You seemed to have that angle covered - I was suggesting an
alternative approach.
I forgot to add the final statement though. (I plead pre-coffee).
log4j.appender.R.File=$\{catalina.base\}/logs/tomcat.log
... plus if the line is part of a log4j.properties file, I never saw
backslashes in those. Works without them.
