Thanks for the replies. I am running a 64-bit JVM so that may very well be the case.
I updated my tomcat installation from 5.5.28 to 6.0.26 and recompiled/installed the native library from that binary distribution and it seems to be working now. Is there any way I can do to tell if APR is running (other than the absence of the warning message). Also is Tomcat 6.0.26 a stable version?
