Apologies, I didn't include every detail of what we did because I assumed most folks would not be interested in reading a book. ;)

Obviously, you're correct, and resource use is something we monitored. There was essentially no resource usage when the page was in the "hung" state. No additional processes were created and no memory usage counts were growing.

Yesterday evening we suggested to the owner of the site several possible re-writes of the code that would address the issue - just like you folks are suggesting. It would be nice to know what he root case of the issue was - for nerdy curiosity reasons if nothing else - but another time perhaps.
