I get crap like this all the time from non-technical folks on my own
team: it's likely because he's using MSIE as his XML viewer. MSIE
transforms XML documents into expandable/collapsable element-style web
pages using some godawful process. When you highlight/copy from that
view, you get all kinds of extra characters, including a '-' in front of
every start-tag.

To Valter: This XML is broken in at least two ways. Please re-post the
XML as viewed by, say, MS Write or even notepad.
