What happens if you go directly into port 8080, bypassing httpd? I realize it shouldn't have anything to do with the session timeout (and your AJAX requests should be resetting the timer), but that's the only thing I can think of in Tomcat that has a default value of 30 minutes. Just for grins, what happens if you change that to 60? Or 10?
