So the short version is that you have two images directories, with the same external path and you want overlapping mappings? Inventing some complex solution to resolve it seems like a poor choice to me. If you have control of one or either of the applications I'd adjust the path to the images instead. Otherwise you're probably looking at individually mapping each image file, which would be tedious.
