Tomcat does an excellent job of serving static content all by itself.  Unless 
you have some other compelling need to run httpd (e.g., PHP, poor man's load 
balancing), I'd strongly recommend that you run Tomcat standalone and simplify 
your life.

So, can you clarify what you mean by standalone? Right now it is running on port 8080 and I have other sites running on this server on the standard port 80. Can the standalone run on the server along side of apache and share port 80 or is there something I am missing here?
