Agreed. Leon, can you provide some justification for that claim?
Presumably, the JVM uses the standard C library calls so coding C
directly to the C library will be faster than the JVM intervening and
translating those calls into C-library calls. The JIT can only optimize
so much. I'm not saying that Java is definitely slower just because it's
Java, but I suspect that "Java outperforms C for I/O" is just as apocryphal.
