Most people on this list (me included) are not interested in helping to solve problems which might be caused by the Debian-specific re-packaging of Tomcat (or in finding out whether or not this really is the case). Therefore, the answer you'll most likely get is: go to http://tomcat.apache.org download a recent Tomcat version from there and use that. If you still want to use the Debian package, you'll probably have more luck asking on a Debian list.
