I worked (at arm's length) with BigIP load balancers and Weblogic at a
client a long time ago (6 years or so) and they all worked as expected
wrt server affinity. They either used the JSESSIONID cookie/URL
parameter or they just added their own cookie that indicated to the lb
which server "belonged" to the client.

This technique should work with Tomcat (or any other server for that
matter) as well.
