I believe JBoss uses Tomcat as the servlet container, so JBoss basically builds on Tomcat to provide and EJB container, MQ-style messaging, and (probably) SOAP services (possibly even using AXIS). If I were doing it, I'd stick to Tomcat, but that's mostly because I know it best. I can configure Tomcat to do exactly what I want and add services (such as AXIS) as needed, rather than removing them which is what I imagine you'd have to do with JBoss.
