That should work (haven't tried it), but I find symlinks to be a great way of confusing oneself and others, especially anyone who doesn't know the target has a symlink pointing to it. It obviously would make it difficult to place the "app" on a Windows system, unless you're gutsy enough to play around with fsutil.
