Why? It sounds to me like you've ruled-out /software/ instead of hardware.

Unexplained SIGSEGV while running Java? $5 says it's bad memory,
motherboard, or processor. Or, perhaps even just a bad pairing of all three.

Has this hardware worked in the past with no issues?

Since you're running x86 hardware, run memtest86+ on each machine
overnight to see if there are any memory copying errors. Any machine
that fails shouldn't be trusted with production applications. Swap-out
your hardware until it passes with no errors.
