| What's the story on Solaris? You need to buy C Compiler? I think they
have
| some Developer's Studio, but I haven't checked licensing.

Solaris 10 comes with gcc and friends (gmake, gas, etc.), but they're
installed in /usr/sfw/bin, which isn't in the default $PATH. As someone
else mentioned, the Sun Studio compilers are also available for the
downloading on Sun's site.

FWIW, Blastwave is kind of an OSS clearinghouse for Solaris. They take
most of the popular packages and pre-build them with sensible defaults
for various flavors of Solaris (8, 9, and 10, both SPARC and x86). It's
nice for people who don't want to have to run down all the dependencies
for the packages they want to install (and who don't want to have stuff
installed in /usr/local by default, instead of /var).
