Hi Ian, I would try to access the manager application directly and see if i encounter the same Problem.
try http://tomcatHost:8080/manager/html/list should prompt you to enter your user name and password if you enter the right credential i assume thing will/should work fine otherwise if you can see any weired problems in your Catalina.out (in your case if you used the suse package so that should be in /var/log/tomcat/catalina.out and if you just unpacked the archive from apache so it should be in /srv/tomcat/logs/catalina.out) please provide them to see if someone can help. Hello. First i should say that i am newbie with tomcat and a relative inexperienced linux users. I have just installed the 5.0.28 binary from tomcat.apache.org on suse 10.1. I installed in /srv/tomcat/. I have configured to start as a daemon using the tomcat5.sh file. I have edited tomcat-users.xml adding admin and manager roles and adding a user admin with these 2 roles. I have checked that this is the file used for authentication. I can access the welcome page. When i click on the manager or admin links i get a popup requesting username and password. However, i cannot get past this point. It simply keeps prompting until it i receive the error page. I have searched the faq, mailing lists and web and found no help. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't know that it matters but I have also just installed the sun jdk1.5.0_08. I am running apache2 but have not configured the connector for tomcat as far as i am aware. Regards Ian. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
