Hi Folks,
On the left sidebar of the website the download is for “Tomcat 10”
while the Documentation is for “Tomcat 10.1”. Now, between Download
and Documentation things are consistent.
I don’t think this is strictly speaking wrong, but I don’t see any
good reason for it and I do think it is a bit confusing. Is there a
good reason that I am missing?
The download links refer to just the major version. The docs refer to
the major and minor.
The reason is that sometimes (eg 10.0.x and 10.1.x) we have multiple
minors of the same major being released at the same time. The download
pages are per major but the docs are the latest release of each minor.
It looks slightly odd at the moment now you mention it but not enough
I'm motivated to go and fix it.
It does look slightly odd and wouldn't be a big deal to change, I think.
When we still supported Tomcat 8.5, the download links said "Tomcat 8"
and the documentation links said "Tomcat 8.5". At least then it looked
intentional. At this point, only Tomcat 10.1 looks out of place.
Do we want a single download page for all Tomcat versions?
I think our download pages are sufficiently verbose that we'd really
want to think about that. Also, the release process for each separate
branch is configured to update individual pages. Merging them would take
some doing, and I think we'd want to re-design the page to make it
easier to find what you are looking for quickly.
