OK. > 64 bit OK. > 16 GB ram Your server only *has* 16 Gbytes of RAM. If it also has 16 Gbytes of *free* RAM, which is what I asked, then you have an unusually slim version of Solaris ;-). Anyway, given that lot you're tinkering at the edges by allocating a mere gigabyte or so to your JVM. If you have enough RAM and if the JVM running Tomcat is the main application on the system, I'd give it (say) 80% of the free (note *free*, not total) RAM on your system. That gives a couple of gig for unusual overhead such as maintenance scripts. If you're living alongside other applications or database servers, you'll have to size the JVM appropriately.
