Thanks, Mark, this is a really valuable hint. I checked if there was
such a possibility several years ago but either I didn't find it or it
was before v. 7.023. I tried it out now and first tests show that a
speed-up of 200% is possible (have to tweak the optimal number of
threads yet). This is not a solution for a lot of my other issues but it
does  make living with fat tomcats easier.
