Actually I was referring to https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6265#section-5.2.3, 
which explicitly states, that a leading . in the domain attribute value should 
be ignored by the user-agent.
This implied for me, that a leading . is allowed. You're right with other 
specs, like https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1034#section-3.5, which says, that 
the domain name must start with a letter.

Because RFC6265 does not allow domains to start with .

Then you need to read it more carefully. Hint: you'll need to read other specs 
as well since RFC6265 refers to them to define domain.
