Sorry to insist on that point, but have you tried to start Tomcat with an ordinary user account? To do that change the port it listens to for anything over 1024. Then start it with deamon.sh. If it works with one account but not the other, there is a difference hiding somewhere. Also, I suggest to work with a stock Tomcat.
