People *do* do this (notice their computer sucking) but mostly (at
least Americans) will just go out and buy another one, assuming that
their computer just isn't fast enough to "work well" after owning it
for a few years.

<soapbox>It's sad that most of us have more computing resources
beneath our fingertips than spacecraft do, yet we upgrade every few
years because MS Office has gotten fatter. </soapbox>
