Please be aware of the difference between *redirect* and *forward* ( 
http://www.javapractices.com/Topic181.cjp ). With the java UrlRewriteFilter 
package ( http://tuckey.org/urlrewrite/ ) you can only do a *redirect* between 
different contexts. To do a transparently forwarding you need a web server like 
Apache or IIS. But maybe you can define a (servlet) mapping for your clients in 
your web.xml.
