Thanks for the quick reply. I have been using Tomca 4.X for our web applications. I have decided to try out Tomcat 5.5. As a first step, I have downloaded JDK 1.5 which is recommended for tomcat 5.5 and installed it. Then I installed Tomcat 5.5 from the binary download after verifying the keys.
the machine I am using is Windows XP and does not have any other instances of tomcat or jre running on it. I am just trying to run the examples servlets and jsp (that come with tomcat download) which are giving me the problem. I checked the logs which indicate a problem with context listener and session listener class. I suspect these are tomcat specfic files and not of any webapps. Correct me If am wrong. thanks, vamsi.
