You don't need to build any level of Tomcat on any platform, since it's pure Java (other than the optional APR library). Just download, unzip (or untar, using gzip), and have at it. I always avoid any 3rd party sources for Tomcat, since I'm too paranoid to trust that they haven't broken it in some fashion.
