What I can see so far is that AJAX error reporting is hard-coded in exception-frame.js. I can't understand how to override this logic properly.
The only option is to create CSS selector div.exception-container iframe { display: none; } and modify div.exception-container position/size (which does look like an ugly hack). Are there any other suggestions?
