This is not currently possible with Tapestry; in fact some people use just the opposite approach, using a Zone update to keep the session live.
It is difficult to tell, on the server side, what the "intent" of a request is, and Tapestry has had no concept of "user generated action" as the intent. Any interaction from the client is treated the same, and it is not clear how these could be differentiated on the server in such a way as to not trigger an extension of session life.
