I ran into a few issues:
a. I still see Prototype & Scriptaculous (+t5.3-compatibility) being

I haven't used T5.4 yet, but I guess there's a still not implemented
symbol or some other form of configuration to choose whether you want
Prototype or jQuery. That's the reason the JavaScript abstraction layer is
being written. As you said, T5.4 hasn't even released an alpha yet, so in
this case you're asking for something that will be implemented, but wasn't
yet. As Tapestry has used Prototype by default until now, I guess the
default will still be Prototype.
