jquery afaik works well with mobile devices. Don't know if you used a plugin - or did it yourself, but I've wrapped a jquery library to do our lazy loading: http://www.appelsiini.net/projects/lazyload . Works well for us - also with mobile devices. It is implemented/wrapped as a mixin.
