Probably the cleanest solutions are: 1. Integrate CKFinder (by the same people that do CKEditor) http://ckfinder.com/demo. This is very easy to integrate, the only thing I don't like is the use of flash for file uploads, IDK if there is another option except flash. 2. Provide only the file upload functionality with something like the tapestry5-jquery fileupload component http://tapestry5-jquery.com/components/docsajaxupload.
