Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately they haven't lead to success. I erased my maven repository, rebuilt the tapestry 5.3.1 quickstart app and added the CreateUser page, with exactly the same results as before.
I had tried previously code similar to what you suggested for onActivate(), but it throws this exception: Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Class com.eviewsss.newapp.pages.User has been transformed and may not be directly instantiated. Any ideas?
