Thanks for your reply Steve, I am also surprised because I am actually trying to follow an example taken from Igor's book. My ChildMinderAccount is a JPA entity that extends an abstract Account class.
Regarding your suggestion of using the setuprender phase, I was not able to find any such EventConstant in the Tapestry API...
